On Saturday the 25th July a few club members and Tracy’s son Liam enjoyed a beautiful winters days out on Phil’s farm in Colebrook where they helped plant some new native trees along the creek bed.
Due to the drought there were a number of trees that had been planted previously that didn’t take, so the working bee included pulling these dead trees out of the ground, loosening up the soil again and planting a new tree in the same hole. For Liam it meant transporting the new trees from the ute to the workers with his big yellow dump truck (see photo above) which was a very important job and lots of fun too.
The purpose of planting native trees is that they grow a lot better than anything else. They will also encourage the birds back to the area again which is good for the land as they eat the grubs.
The working bee went for about 3 hours and quite a number of trees were planted in that time which was a great help for Phil.
