My wife Toni and I would like to register our appreciation with Rotary and the City Central Branch specifically for its support of Storm the Stage over the last 4 years and in particular the last 3 years when our daughter (Elisabeth) has been involved. The opportunity to be involved in such a well run event presents participants with experiences they may not otherwise get. Not only is it challenging to the entrants through the ‘gentle’ application of competitiveness, it brings with it the opportunity to learn from well credentialed and experienced judges, whom we have found to be encouraging and nurturing in their adjudications and back stage conversations. Add to this the wonderful experience of meeting like minded young people with similar ambitions it amounts to a pleasurable experience. I know Elisabeth has appreciated all that she has learnt from the event.
To Paul Sayer and his group of hard workers we say “well done”. In times of economic crisis it is difficult to drum up enthusiasm for the Arts as it can possibly be seen as frivolous when hardship is being experienced in other fields.
Sadly Elisabeth’s competitive association with the event has come to an end but she is richer for the experience and I am sure she will be an avid onlooker in years to come depending on where her ambitions take her.
Thank you all so much.
Phil and Toni Hickey (and Elisabeth)

I am Rtn. John Ricky Gootam will be visiting Hobart from 28th till May 3rd. I wanted to come to the meetings and exchange our club banner with your club when i am there in Hubort. Could you get back to me about meetings times and how to get there and also wondering if you could give me about 10 mintues to speak about our club and our activities. Thank you!

Hi There,
Just happened to be surfing and found your website. Could I ask what the person on as “sketch” does at your weekly meeting? Also it appears you have a roster for taking the dinner money - this is a great idea. Many thanks, Jo Healy. In-coming Treasurer, Rotary Club of Canberra South

Hi Jo
Thanks for your interest.
We have 2 types of member sketch - international and vocational.
At most meetings a member will be rostered to do a 5 minute international sketch. They can tell the club about any rotary project from somewhere around the world (including Australia). Members tend to either seach on the internet or use one of the rotary magazines. We find that these sketches can be inspiring and interesting. They also give members a professional development opportunity by speaking in front of the club.
Once a month at our committee meetings (which we have instead of a normal club meeting) a member is rostered for a vocational sketch. This 5 minute sketch could be focused on the member’s current job or cover an overview of their life story and how they have come to be in their current vocation.
Finally, yes we roster our money collector, which works well. The money collector is also responsible for bringing a raffle prize and is not required to pay the admin fee that night.
Cheers
Paul Sayer
